Five Tips for Filming with a Teleprompter

Start with a Hard Copy

Allow them to organize their thoughts, and re-read on-set. Make their edits to the script digitally, yourself.

Double Take

Record it a second time, if your guest has the mental energy for it. Before recording the second time, ask them what parts felt right, what parts felt like they would want to do differently.

Hospitality

Have a bottle of water, and make sure they know it is for them. Have a small mirror on hand. Feeling cared for encourages confidence!

Spell it Out for Them

You read faster than you speak. Spell out numbers and grammar:

  • 2024 → “Twenty-twenty-four,”
  • / → “Slash.”
  • “$123,456″ → one hundred twenty-three thousand, four hundred fifty-six dollars

Understand

To mitigate stiffness, read back how you think lines should sound, recommend body language.

Bonus: Helpful Phrases

  • “I’m confident we got what we needed.”
  • “How did that feel?”
  • “It’s a lot easier to cut extra info than to re-film later!”
  • “Was there anything you would like to try again or say differently?”
